RB Fitness offers personalised personal training, dynamic fitness classes, and authentic Capoeira training. Our sessions are designed to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and confidence in a supportive and high-energy environment for all fitness levels and ages. We also work with teenagers, helping them build self-esteem, confidence, and discipline through structured and engaging training.
Raul Borges
known as Mestre Gaúcho, is a personal trainer and fitness instructor, and the owner and general manager of RB Fitness Centre. Mestre Gaúcho first came to Ireland in the year 2000, where he opened his first capoeira classes in Galway.
In 2006, Mestre Gaúcho moved to Cork City, where he opened Ireland’s first-ever capoeira academy. Later, Mestre Gaúcho decided to open RB Fitness Centre to fulfill his dream of having a gym.
Mestre Gaúcho’s love of teaching never faded. He has been teaching capoeira for 26 years. He has also been part of Grupo Candeias for 24 years, where he was part of the family, warmly welcomed, and embraced as one of their own. He is also a certified personal nutritionist, a specialist in sports nutrition, and in children’s nutrition.
In 2015, he was nominated for the Cork Indoor Sports Star Personality Award. Mestre Gaúcho has always been a sports enthusiast, playing volleyball, basketball, judo and many more throughout his life.
He also served in the army in Brazil, and he holds a certificate awarded by the Ireland National Training Centre for Fitness Instructors at the National College of Exercise and Health Studies in Dublin.
Today, Mestre Gaúcho is considered a pioneer in Ireland having taught capoeira for 26 years without ever stopping.
His energy never wavered, even during the pandemic, when he organized events in a rented marquee, teaching small groups of six students at a time. He always participated in the St. Patrick’s Parade, along with his capoeira group, his fitness centre, and the local in Ballincollig rugby club.
He was always involved in the community, caring for the family and society in Ireland, not just in Cork or Ballincollig, but across all of Ireland. For all his sacrifice, for all he has done for capoeira and for society in Ireland—across Cork, across the country—he is being honored by Grupo Candeias as a Mestre de Capoeira.
Now, to pay tribute, we will invite three individuals to speak. After them, we will call 3 people after on Mestre Suino, the president of Grupo Candeias, to share his words. Then, we will invite Mestre Sarará, the vice president, and finally, we will call on Mestre Piau, his mentor, to present him with the certificate, bestowing this well-deserved title upon our dear friend and teacher, Mestre Gaúcho.
